Called to Serve
There is a striking contrast in today’s Gospel lesson between Jesus and two of his closet disciples. Jesus is preparing them for his death. They were approaching Jerusalem where Jesus would die on behalf of all mankind in obedience to the will of God. It is the purpose he had been sent for and the purpose he would fulfill. He, the true servant of God and mankind, was seeking God’s glory and our good.

Every Vacation Bible School needs a wiggle song. One that was a lot of fun is Father Abraham. It goes like this
Father Abraham had many sons
Many sons had Father Abraham
and I am one of them and so are you
so let’s just praise the Lord!
After each chorus a body part is named, left arm, right arm, left foot, right foot, then turn around, then sit down. It’s a simple song; however, there is a profound truth hiding behind the words.
